Special Interest Communities
Residence Life has developed new relationships with academic departments on campus to create special interest communities that unite common academic and social interest with the residential experience. These communities focus the residential experience for first-year students, provide opportunities for facutly interaction and academic development, and contribute to a successful transition to college life. Each community will participate in intentional activities based in community service, organized discussions with faculty, and involvement with the Washington, D.C., community.
Media and Communications
This community will be available for first-year students who will enter the School of Arts and Sciences as a media studies major or students generally interested in the discussion of the media and forms of communication. Participants in this community will interact with Residence Life staff and media studies department faculty to discuss the use of media in the United States and the world and changes to the use and portrayal of media in a technology based world. The community will be located in Spellman Hall, which traditionally houses freshman on campus.
Politics and Current Events
This community will be available for first-year students who will enter the School or Arts and Sciences as a politics major or students generally intterested in the discussion of politics and current events. Participants in this community will interact with Residence Life staff and politics department faculty to discuss current events and relevant political issues. It will be located in Spellman Hall, which traditionally houses freshmen on campus.
