The Freshmen Residential College Program

Research has indicated that college students, particularly in their first year, benefit from living-learning environments that combine residence life and academic experiences.  For this reason, the Freshmen Residential College program is offered. Designed for and by students, this community promotes the holistic education experience fundamental to the mission of CUA.  If you are dedicated to faith, service, and leadership and have a commitment to being involved in your community, the Residential College Program could be a great fit.

Residential College Highlights

·          Interactions with a Faculty-in-Residence who participates in hall activities and serves as

           a resource for residents.

·          Frequent opportunities to participate in open and lively discussions regarding important and

           relevant student, community, and world issues.

           assistance or support.

Located in Unanue Hall in Centennial Village, the Freshmen Residential College seeks to build a strong sense of fellowship among its members by encouraging high levels of commitment to community service, intellectual and spiritual growth, and extra-curricular involvement. Students participating in this program gain knowledge about their personal strengths while learning how to work together and develop as a community. Additionally, students will learn about themselves and the CUA community by taking advantage of opportunities, activities, and programs designed to enhance academic and personal development.

Freshmen Residential College Community Member Responsibilities

·          Attend weekly round-table discussions, hall programs and hall meetings.

·          Co-facilitate one round-table discussion each year.

·          Participate in committees that manage different aspects of the Freshmen Residential

           College, such as special event or community service.

·          Assist in creating a respectful and proactive community through participation in activities.

·          Take a leadership role in Freshmen Residential College activities by organizing and

           attending social, service-oriented, and educational events.

How can I apply to be part of the Residential College Program?

Incoming students should submit a Residence Hall and Dining Services Application indicating their interest in the Freshmen Residential College in the Living and Learning Community Section of the application. Applicants for the Residential College should also submit the following:

• A typed, one-page essay detailing why the student would be a strong member of the residential college. The essay should focus on community, spirituality, service, and leadership. listing the dates and descriptions of all extracurricular activities
