Whether one or all residents of a room are checking out, an inspection of the entire room and/or bedrooms (including common spaces) being vacated must be completed. The Residence Hall and Dining Services Agreement outlines that students must return their room in as good condition as it was received – with allowance for reasonable and customary wear and tear. There are two methods for students to check out of rooms, which are detailed below.
Standard Checkout (Recommended)
After a resident has moved all personal articles from the room (including any common areas) and cleaned it, the RA will perform an inspection with the resident present. If there is any damage or need for extraordinary cleaning the RA will try to establish responsibility among the residents of the room at that time. This information will be recorded on the room condition report. Residents are encouraged to determine responsibility for damanges and submit to the Area Coordinator (via CUA email account) prior to the checkout appointment. Determination of a responsibile party is important because all residents of a room will be assessed a portion of the cost if an individual is not identified.
Check-out appointments will be set up beginning April 28 through Finals week. Appointments will take place starting May 2nd and ending Sunday, May 11th. For Late Stays, checkout appointments will be made as appropriate.
Express Checkout
When a resident chooses Express Checkout, the resident completes the checkout process in the absence of the RA. Final room inspection and assessment of damages will be completed after all roommates have officially checked out. Please note that by completing an express checkout, a resident waives the right to appeal any and all damage charges.
To complete an express checkout the student should follow these steps:
1. Prepare his/her room for final inspection.
a. Remove all personal belongings from room.
b. Clean room to its original state.
2. Place key in envelope, seal the envelope, and complete requested information on envelope.
3. Place envelope in express check out box which will be placed outside of each RHO.
Express checkout envelopes will be available in the RHOs and each neighborhood’s dropbox after May 1.
Damage billing information will be posted to students' My Housing acounts upon completion of room reviews. Students with a balance due will receive a letter from Housing Services and Residence Life indicating the charge for damages around June 10. The deadline for appeals, which must be submitted to the appropriate Area Coordinator, is July 1, 2008.

Summer housing is still available for CUA students in Millennium South, Caldwell and Seton Halls. Additional information can be found here. Current CUA students do not need to be enrolled in summer classes to be eligible for summer housing. This is a great opportunity for CUA students to pursue internships and other career opportunities in the Washington, DC area during the summer months. Information on summer internships is available in the Office of Career Services and on the Career Services web site at http://careers.cua.edu/.
