Welcome to the CUA Campus Community! Move-in day is a busy and exciting time on campus.This page is designed to provide you with information to help make your arrival to campus as smooth as possible.

If you have any questions at any time while you move in, look for the students wearing RED shirts. They are student volunteers here to make this process the best experience it can be! Opening of the residence halls will take place on the dates and times listed below.

Move-in Information for New Students

Move-in for new students is an exciting time! Students begin their CUA experience immediately upon arriving to campus. Students will meet new people and share the excitement or nervous anticipation of moving into a new place. Regardless of the emotions, the CUA staff in RED shirts will strive to make your move-in day successful. Please familiarize yourself with the information below to help make your move-in day easier!

 

 

Reminders for Move-in

Remember that Orientation opening sessions are scheduled by last name. Please use your Orientation opening session as a guide to schedule your arrival at your check-in location. Staggered arrival will help ease traffic flow and will decrease your wait time at the check-in location.

We strongly recommend that you label all your boxes and belongings with your last name, residence hall and room number prior to arrival, to ensure that your belongings are not confused with other students who are moving in. 

When you arrive at your check-in location, staff in RED will be there to greet you and provide you with instructions about the move-in process. You can check in to both Orientation and your Residence Hall at your check-in location.

If you have a hand truck, we recommend you bring it with you, hand trucks and bins will be available on campus, but quantities are very limited.

Maps and Traffic Flow

Traffic will be controlled by the Department of Public Safety and by Student Leaders in RED on move-in day. The traffic flow on move-in day will differ from regular traffic patterns on or around campus. Please use the maps and directions below to plan your route to campus.
 
For residents living in a Centennial Village house, please click here for a campus map with move-in directions. 
  1. Plan to arrive to campus from Michigan Avenue, entering through the main entrance of the University. Drive west, towards McMahon Hall. Student Leaders will be available to direct you to unloading zones.
  2. A student assistant will direct you to a specific unloading zone. Residents will be directed into CV Circle, which you will enter by using the driveway next to Curley Hall. Unloading zones are highlighted in blue on the map.
  3. In your unloading zone, a Move-In Crew, comprised of Student Leaders in teal, will help you unload your vehicle.
  4. While your car is being unloaded, we encourage students to check in with Orientation and Residence Life on the CV Sport Court.
  5. After unloading, please move your vehicle to permanent parking. This will allow another family to arrive in the unloading zone and start the move-in process.
  6. The Move-In Crew will help you and your family move your belongings into your residence hall.
For residents living in Regan, Ryan, or Flather, please click here for a campus map with move-in directions.
  1. Plan to approach the residence halls from the intersection of Taylor St. and John McCormack Road.
  2. A Student Leader will direct you to your specific unloading zone, and provide you with a 20 mintue parking pass.* Flather residents will be directed into the parking lot in front of Opus Hall. Regan and Ryan residents will be directed to unload in front of their residence halls on John McCormack Road.
  3. Park in your unloading zone. A Move-In Crew, comprised of Student Leaders, will help you unload your vehicle.
  4. While the car is being unloaded by the Move-In Crew, family members, and/or other helpers, incoming students may proceed to the check-in tables in their individual residence halls to check into the Residence Hall and Orientation.
  5. After unloading, please move your vehicle to permanent parking. This will allow another family to arrive in the unloading zone and start the move-in process.
  6. The Move-In Crew will help you and your family move your belongings into your residence hall. 

*Please do not park your car and leave beyond the 20 mintues allowed on the parking pass. Space is very limited, and respecting the time limit allows more students to move into the halls.

Parking

During Move-In 2017, parking will be limited around the Residence Halls. Cars will be permitted to park in unloading zones for no more than20 minutes while unloading their belongings. Permanent parking for Orientation will be available at the DuFour Center, O'Boyle Lot, and in the large parking lot at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (across Harewood Road from the Shrine). A campus shuttle will be running from these parking lots to various points on campus throughout the day.
 
Please note that the parking lot for the Basilica of the National Shrine closes at 7:00 p.m. If your parents plan on staying on campus for the 7:00 p.m. parent session, they should move their car from the Basilica lot before 7:00 p.m.
 

Checking In

Student Leaders in teal will be directing traffic to the unloading zones and will then direct you to the appropriate check-in location. New students should visit the check-in stations while the Move-In Crew start to unload the vehicle. Find your hall below to identify your check-in location:

Saturday, August 26 - 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, August 27 - 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Please note that on Sunday the 27th, staffing will be limited,

check in will happen

in the Residence Hall Office of your respective neighborhood.

  3. Vehicles will need to be moved to permanent parking after unloading.
For residents living in Millennium North, Millennium South, or Opus, please click here for a map with move-in directions.
  1. Traffic should approach Opus and the Millenniums from the intersection of Taylor St. and John McCormack Road.
  2. Students will be provided a 20 minute parking pass and directed by Student Leaders to unloading zones. Opus residents will unload in the Opus parking lot. Residents of the Millenniums will unload onto John McCormack Road by their respective hall.
  3. Vehicles will need to be moved to permanent parking after unloading.
  4. For Fall 2017, we will be moving students into Millennium North, South and Opus by floor. Please consider the following time frames to ease traffic flow, and elevator usage on Saturday.

Parking

During Opening weekend, parking will be limited around the residence halls. Cars will be permitted to park in unloading zones for 20 minutes. Permanent parking on campus will be available at the DuFour Center, McMahon Hall, and in the large parking lot at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (on Saturday, August 26 only). A campus shuttle will be running from the parking areas to various points on campus.
